Great ideas alone are worthless. They’re a dime a dozen. Everybody at some point in their lives has had an idea for the “next big thing.”
Ideas alone are worth nothing until you act on them. The real value lies in your ability to transform your idea into a great product.
Creators know that the key to overcoming the fear of making something new can be summed up in two words: Start now. The journey towards success begins with the first step.
When you’re new at something, you need to start creating. The most important thing is to begin.
Rework
Big, bold ideas are so rarely executed because of the imagineer’s inability to act. We get intimidated because our brain tries to make the leap from zero to 100% and it can’t fathom how to connect all of those dots.
But we need to remind ourselves that no big ideas were executed overnight. Creating something new takes time. It requires patience and determination. You need to break down the big idea into manageable, bite-size pieces.
Get into the habit of asking yourself: What is the very next action that I can do right now?
That next step might be emailing a friend to vet the idea. You may need to schedule time on your calendar to do more research. Or it may be writing up a quick proposal at your desk to share with your boss at your next one-on-one.
If you believe in your idea, distill it down into the simplest next action and do it. Every idea, and every project is accomplished one task at a time. People who have created awesome products or built successful businesses didn’t do it overnight.
You turn ideas into reality when you break big, hairy, audacious ideas down into simple steps. Then put your head down and get to work completing one at a time.
Don’t delay. Start now.
