Want to be a better listener? Then do what good listeners do. Don’t interrupt, repeat what was said, and ask follow-up questions.
Want to be more confident? Then go find out what confident people look like. Smile more, sit up straighter, and make eye contact.
Want to be a better writer? Then observe the habits of other good writers. Read books, take notes, and schedule time to be alone with your thoughts.
You acquire new skills by repeatedly pretending to be good at something you’re not.
It might feel awkward. You’ll probably be self-conscious in the beginning.
But like sleeping, nobody knows you’re faking except you.
And then you won’t be.
