Working in an environment with big challenges and limited resources can be daunting. Every problem feels like a mountain and it’s tempting to feel like it’s up to you to solve it in one big fell sweep. After all, you are the smart, young, tech savvy college graduate who is supposed to have all the creative solutions.
Find a Judo solution, one that delivers maximum efficiency with minimum effort.
Rework
As much as my ego would love to solve big problems with complex solutions, the reality is that a small and simple solution is almost always good enough. Mundane solutions that work and can be implemented quickly are your biggest asset.
Instead of dreaming up big ideas that are difficult or near impossible to implement, start bragging about the small and easy solutions that move the ball in the right direction. Good enough can evolve into great later. Big systemic problems are never solved all at once. They’re solved one small improvement at a time.
So quit wasting time and resources on superhero solutions. Embrace the mundane. Be okay with simple. Swallow your pride and do something easy for a change. Perfection is the enemy of progress. Do something good enough and move on.
