Failures will happen. But don’t coddle yourself with platitudes to make them seem like something more than they are. Failures are to be avoided. Plain and simple.
Do not be complacent to learn from your failures. Learn from your successes. Take what works and apply it somewhere else.
In the business world, failure has become an expected rite of passage.
Rework
“Fail fast” is all too common advice. That can be a comforting phrase, but it doesn’t set the groundwork for an effective mindset.
Rather than aiming our sights on failing fast, we should be thinking about how to make quick bets that maximize our chance of success. Instead of looking for examples of ideas that didn’t work and avoiding them, why not find solutions that work and adapting them for your needs?
Build off of your successes. Improve upon your quick wins.
I update my manager every week with the successes my team and I have accomplished and my plan to roll them out to other areas. I never show up to our weekly one-on-one with a list of things we tried and didn’t work.
Move on from failure quickly. Learn from it and don’t let it happen again. But reject the idea that your path to success must come from a series of mistakes.
